Having Heart In A Sometimes Heartless World

Day 69 - Deception

Scripture focus: Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. Isaiah 55:2-3

Isaiah asks why we spend our hard-earned money on that which does not satisfy. Good question. Easy answer. We absolutely hope that it will satisfy!! We don't throw good money after bad without some hope that this time the results will be worth the effort.

Insanity - doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

What have you passionately pursued that does not satisfy?

Isaiah reminds us that there is sustenance available to us - food that is good, nourishing, satisfying. It brings us life - as opposed to stealing our vitality.

One of the greatest lessons that I've learned from the recovery community I hang out in is that acknowledgement of a problem is a crucial first step.

Is there anything you need to acknowledge to yourself? Are you eating empty calories in a vain attempt to gain strength for the day?

Are you derailed in any area of your life?

Our everlasting Creator God knows what we need in order to run the race and finish it with satisfaction. How are our spiritual ears? Are they listening? If so, we will see signs of life - sparks of spiritual renewal - in our daily lives. They may be small, but they will be encouraging.

As Joey always said on Friends, "How you doing?"

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Proverbs 4:23 TNIV
