Scripture focus: You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. Matthew 5:3, The Message
With less of you there is more of God and his rule…
End-of-your-rope experiences can produce once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. They provide us a chance to hit the “reset” button, pause to prepare, and choose how to proceed with life. Of course, many people refuse to pause. We continue to find new ways to hang onto the same old rope. Instead of “resetting” we settle. We react in ways that our brain is trained to respond. We proceed without caution.
Matthew 5:3 is suggesting that we choose to change that old way of living.
With less of you there is more of God and his rule…
There are lots of situations and circumstances that are completely beyond our control. That does not mean we have no power. We may not always get to choose the rope, but we are given the grand privilege of choosing how we respond.
Learning how to live life on God’s terms, within the parameters of his rule, is the only way I know to think about blessings and being at the end of my rope in the same sentence.
Spiritual renewal isn’t always about figuring out a way for our faith to make us feel better.
Whether we feel better or not, the renewal process will require that we continue to work through what it means to submit to God.
With less of you there is more of God and his rule…
With less of “me,” I can stop going to my default position when faced with suffering. I no longer have to live with the bad habits picked up as I’ve grown up in a world filled with humanity. I can change. More amazingly – I can be transformed.
My question is this: are we ready to be ye transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:1)? If so, we’ll need to wrestle with blessing and ropes and our preconceived notions about what it means to be a follower of God.
