Day 307 – Week 44 at a glance

Having a Heart in a Sometimes Heartless World

Scripture focus: Do everything readily and cheerfully – no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Philippians 2:14-15 The Message

We’re going to end our year with words to encourage us in recovering the good and satisfying life God desires for us. To get us ready, we began this month with some memories of holidays past. I suspect you have a few tales you could tell too about your hopes and dreams for the holidays. I wonder – are some of them more like nightmares?

One of the beautiful aspects of recovery is learning how to change old internal habit patterns and replace them with new ways of thinking, doing, believing and once in awhile – even our emotions get readjusted.

It’s my prayer for all of us that we approach the holiday seasons with a bit more maturity than in years past. I pray that we don’t load our holiday tables down with weighty expectations fueled by fantasy and dreams of perfection. I pray that we find a satisfying life – and enjoy every moment of it!

This completes the three hundred third day of our devotional series.
