Having Heart In A Sometimes Heartless World

Day 133

Week 19 At A Glance

In this week's study, we looked at the family situation of Frank and Cathy. An addicted son has brought them to their knees. Nearly bankrupt and close to divorce, this couple struggles with what it means to love well.

"Life can be like a stake through the heart." Soul Cravings, Erwin McManus, entry 4, Meaning.

Cathy has led the charge in learning how to move from cyclical to productive suffering. Frank's reluctant willingness to hear her renewed framework for dealing with this problem helps her explain to him concepts like:

  • God provides us limits - including learning how to live within the limits of love.

Jesus said, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.' This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.' These two commands are pegs; everything in God's Law and the Prophets hangs from them." Matthew 22:37-40 The Message

  • Love is always supportive too. Supportive love encourages others, propels them, toward responsible living. When we enable others, we're propping them up.

Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:7-8 Contemporary English Version

Recommended reading: I don't know about you - but I'm a bit behind in my reading. Let's take the day to make progress in catching up.

This completes the first one hundred thirty three steps of your 365 step journey; I pray you are nearer to God as a result of the steps you've taken this week.
